There's nothing better on a cold winter evening than cuddling up with a nice hot drink. In this class, we'll mix our own warming tea blends, mulling spices, and hot cocoa mix. Of course, we'll discuss the herbal properties of each of the ingredients (many of which you won't find in store-bought varieties) and why we may use them. These make great gifts, or keep them for yourself!

How do you go from reading books and planting rosemary to using herbal medicine in your daily life? The first step is to have a store of it on hand. In this class, we'll discuss a handful of widely useful plants: their properties and applications for issues that commonly occur in the home. We'll cover proper tending, harvesting, drying, and storage of garden-grown and local wild herbs, as well as where to purchase them if need be. We'll discuss various preparations, such as tinctures vs. syrups; which plants do best with each type, and which ones are helpful to have made ahead of time, plus how best to store and use them once made.

Creating an Herbal Formula
6:00 - 7:30 PM

Addressing health issues often requires a nuanced and well-balanced approach that can be difficult to achieve with a single plant or "shotgun" formula. In this class, we'll explore the synergy of various herbs and types of herbs; their characters and roles within a formula. You'll learn how to utilize this deeper understanding to make medicines finely tuned to particular situations. Several models will be discussed, from Traditional Chinese to triune, as well as issues of substitution, taste, shelf-life, and appropriate delivery methods. We'll create something together as a demonstration.
